Let’s Build a Bonfire
Season’s changing, like it always has
Wrapping browns and yellows round me like a blanket
I want to melt into everything
Plummeting down, down, down, down
In a spiky jacket
Another message ends ‘keep in touch’
And ‘I believe in you’
It’s just one more thing pretending not to end
But I love this time of year
Stumbling forward
To where the river bends
And like a changing season - right on cue
Something’s haunting you
So let’s build a bonfire, burn these ghosts down to the ground
Like children, faces glowing round and round and round and round
‘Cause there’s too much stuff trying to crawl inside
I want to hit the ground and fling my spikes real wide
These days all you’ve got for the ones you love is defence and attack
And they’re so worried about you, they never hit back
So get the villagers ready for six, it gets dark early today
Let’s head out for the fields with matches, petrol and hay
Cos like a changing season - right on cue
Something’s haunting you
So let’s build a bonfire, burn these ghosts down to the ground
Like children, faces glowing round and round and round and round
‘Cause there’s too much stuff trying to crawl inside
I want to hit the ground and fling my spikes real wide
